What's behind the making of a garment?
Our manifesto, the reason for being of Clear Fashion.
When you hear about fashion, you think about fashion week parades, famous models. We also think about the piece of clothing we fell for, the brand we have just discovered and the pleasure of being able to feel good in our clothes. But we don’t talk enough about what’s behind the clothes we buy.
Yet the making of a garment has a history: sometimes a beautiful one but other times a history that we cannot accept. The fashion industry is full of social and environmental problems:
- Indecent working conditions, forced labour and even child labour
- Pressure on natural resources, water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, animal abuse
- Health risks for workers and consumers alike.
Realizing that a simple piece of clothing could generate such a negative impact on society had us shocked. We like fashion, but we want a fashion that respects people and the environment. That's why we are now working every day toward that goal.
Wise consumption: the power of citizens
All of us citizens can be game-changers.
As consumers, we can influence and even evolve a sector. Committed and wise consumption choices can indicate to industry players that we reject certain practices that do not reflect our values. By consuming that way, we can also support brands that have made responsible production choices such as choosing green raw materials, working with suppliers that respect labour rights or using processes with a low impact on health and the environment.
It is not the "trendy fashion of the moment". Social & Environmental Responsibility must be the basis of all production processes and not be limited to a simple market trend. Many of us citizens think like that. Together, we can move the sector towards more sustainable production modes.
A true lack of information in an opaque sector
We do not have enough information to act as consumers.
The only pieces of information that brands must declare are the price and composition of the garment. And too often, brands omit certain facts when communicating on their eco-responsible approaches.
This lack of transparency represents a real problem for the industry and its consumers since it prevents both producers and buyers to make decisive responsible choices.
Enlightening committed consumers
Clear Fashion was born from the ambitious idea that we can, if we act together, reinvigorate the fashion industry and make it evolve towards responsible production practices. We no longer want to wait and remain passive in the face of this. That is why we decided to build the tools that will bring more transparency to the fashion sector.
At Clear Fashion, we work for the creation of tools that allow us to get the right information at the right time to make the best choices when buying clothes: informed and responsible choices!
